The Annual Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology Conference 2014 was held on Saturday, the 28 March, 2015 at the Department of Botany, University of Dhaka. The one day conference was organized by the Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC&B) and University of Dhaka. The Association  came into being in 1990. Initially, there was doubt about the necessity of creating a new organization in the backdrop of the existence of the Bangladesh Botanical Society. Judging from the point of view of smooth functioning of the Association and its achievements which included the publication of a widely circulated biannual journal entitled the Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology, and holding the Annual Conference with scientific sessions, the decision to launch it as a new entity has been more than justified.
Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, the Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Professor Dr. M. Imdadul Hoque, Dean, the Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Dhaka as the special guest. Professor Dr. Rakha Hari Sarker, the Vice President, BAPTC&B presided over the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
About 150 scientists representing different universities and research institutes all over the country participated in this conference. The inaugural ceremony was followed by two scientific- and one poster session. Seventeen papers were presented at the two oral- and seven at the poster session.
The scientific session was followed by the Annual General Meeting of the members of the Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC&B).
