Dhaka 26 Jan. 2014. n a research article titled, “The Genome Sequence of the Fungal Pathogen Fusarium virguliforme that Causes Sudden Death Syndrome in Soybean’ , published in the January issue of PLOS One, the lead author, Madan K. Bhattacharyya and five of his associates reported that they have deciphered the genome of the virulent fungal pathogen Fusarium virguliforme that causes sudden death syndrome (SDS) of soybean – a disease of global concern throughout the soybean producing regions of the world. The authors applied Next-Generation DNA Sequencing technique to reveal the draft F. virguliforme genome sequence. They identified putative pathogenicity genes facilitating the way to discover the mechanisms used by the pathogen to cause this disease.
