Utilizing genes from Porteresia coarctata to develop salt tolerant high yielding rice cultivars

December 11, 2013. In view of the renewed interest by CARES and BD rice breeders in utilizing  genes from Porteresia coarctata to develop  salt tolerant high yielding rice cultivars,  GNOBB draws
 attention of its readers to a  recent reference, namely, “Deep Transcriptome Sequencing of Wild Halophyte Rice, Porteresia coarctata, provides Novel Insights into the Salinity and Submergence Tolerance Factors”  published in the October issue in DNA Research.”  This is a contribution of Functional and Applied Genomics Laboratory, National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi 110067, India by six researchers, namely, Rohini GargMohit Verma,  Shashank AgrawalRama ShankarManoj Majee and Mukesh Jain.
