As announced earlier the Bangladesh Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology Conference 2012 was held November 30 through December 1, 2012 at the Conference Hall, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST), Sylhet. The conference was jointly organized by Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC&B), University of Dhaka, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST), and Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI). Professor Dr. Md. Elias Uddin Bishwas, Treasurer, SUST, Sylhet graced the conference as the Chief Guest while special guests were: Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Haque, Dean, Life Science, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Head Dept of Computer science & Engineering, SUST, Sylhet and Mr. M. Khairul Bashar, Director General, Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute, Ishurdi.
The inaugural session was chaired by Professor Dr. M. Mozammel Haque, President, BAPTC & B, while Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Head, Dept. of GEB, SUST, Sylhet & Local Organizing Secretary accorded the welcome address. Professor Rakha Hari Sarker, Vice President of BAPTC&B was the keynote speaker. He spoke on the theme of the Conference, “Application of Biotechnology in Achieving Food Security in Bangladesh.”
Total participants were 250 including members of BAPTC&B, SUST students and observers. Twenty-five papers were presented in three scientific sessions from among 58 abstracts.
