Dhaka 24th March, 2015. The Bangladesh Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has organized a day-long national conference at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka on March 21, 2015. The theme of the conference was: “Biochemistry, Industry and Sustainable Economy”. The aim of the conference was to promote and establish effective engagement between bio-researchers and industries in order to contribute significantly to the ongoing economic growth of the country. Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP, honorable commerce minister, Govt of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh delivered his speech as the chief guest of the conference. He emphasized on the importance of collaboration between researchers and entrepreneurs and expressed his commitment to help academia establish public private partnership (PPP). Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, vice-chancellor, University of Dhaka and Mr. Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed, President of FBCCI also delivered their speeches as special guests at the conference. The plenary speaker of the conference was Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed from the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department, DU and the topic of his talk was “Integrated Approach Towards Emerging Technology Based Bio-Industrialization: Challenges and Solutions.” Prof Mamun proposed a hypothetical model of engaging industry and researchers which received much appreciation from the audience.
The conference was divided into four different scientific sessions, of which two were in basic research and the two others were in applied research field. There were 7 invited speakers from academia, 1 from icddr,b and 2 speakers from Aristopharma pharmaceutical industry. The academia speakers were from Dhaka -, Rajshahi -, Chittagong-, Jahanagirnagar- and Independent University, Bangladesh. There was a poster session in which about 100 researchers from all around the country presented their ongoing or finished researches. At the closing ceremony three speakers from basic research and another three from Applied research were given awards and the best three poster presenters also received recognition at the closing ceremony.
