It’s a red letter day for Bangladeshi jute scientists working at the newly established biotechnology lab situated in the BJRI premises. Based on the information provided by Prof. Maqsudul Alam, (the world renowned genome scientist at the Manoa Campus of the Hawaiian University) , Sheikh Hasina announced in the afternoon today (Sunday) at her official residence that Bangladeshi scientists under the guidance of Professor Alam have unraveled the genome sequence of the local variety of deshi jute, Corchorus capsularis.
It may be recalled that on 16 June 2010, the Prime Minister Sheikh Haseena announced at the National Parliament that the above group headed by Professor Alam decoded the genome of Tossa jute, namely C. olitorius.
While announcing the breakthrough news at the Press Conference held in her official residence, গণভবন this afternoon the jubilant and happy PM Hasina said, “I hope that the golden fiber will bring back our golden smile.”
