The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) has elected 35 new fellows in December 2020 among which three fellows are from Bangladesh. GNOBB is proud to convey its heartfelt greetings to Prof. Zeba Islam Seraj, from the University of Dhaka and the president of GNOBB. She was elected in the structural, cell, and molecular biology category. Prof. Zeba Seraj is actively working with the development of salt-tolerant rice varieties from molecular breeding and transgenic approaches utilizing advanced genomics tools. The other two members selected from Bangladesh are Prof A A Mamun from Jahangir Nagar University (Physics) and Dr. Rubhana Raqib, senior scientist, icddr,b (Medical and Health Sciences incl. Neurosciences ). With this newly elected class, the total number of fellows is now 1302. Sixteen of the new members are women. The election results take effect on 1 st January 2021 and the new members will be inducted at the next TWAS General meeting.
