27th November, ’14. The Nepal Biotechnology Association organized a two-day National Conference on Biotechnology along with its Annual General Meeting on November 22-23, 2014 in Kathmandu. The theme of the conference was Plant Biotechnology for Economic Development. The main objective of the conference is to apply biotechnology for rapid development of agricultural crops and medicinal plarnts of Nepal.
A 5-member team comprising Prof. M.Imdadul Hoque, Prof Rakha Hari Sarker, Prof. Shamimul Alam, Prof Mihir Lal Saha and Prof. Md. Nurul Islam from the Department of Botany, University of Dhaka attended the conference. They all presented their research papers.
Apart from Bangladesh, scientists from the USA, Korea and India also attended the conference. The conference was very successful. His Excellency, the Honorable President of Nepal invited the foreign scientists in his office. The Head of the country was very much interested in developing collaboration among the scientists of Nepal and the participating scientists from abroad. [Report provided by Prof. Rakha Hari Sarker]
