Dr. Md. Tanvir Rahman is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University and former Director of International Desk, and Director of Prof. Mohammad Hossain Central Lab of BAUBangladesh Agricultural University.

He is also a Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Science (BAS). He is an Adjunct Visiting Professor of Xinxiang University, Henan, China. Dr. Rahman completed DVM from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in 1993. Later he completed MSc and PhD from University of Guelph, Canada and University of Warwick, UK respectively and Postdoc from the Max-Planck-Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Marburg, Germany.

Earlier Dr. Rahman worked as Consultant for the Government of Bangladesh, PI for LPVRPC(Livestock and Poultry Vaccine Research and Production Centre), Bangladesh Agricultural University and Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, BAU

  • Working jointly on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR with various International Consortium and organizations, having members from Technical University of Munich, Germany, Oslo University, Norway and Boston University, USA, Jiao Tong Shanghai Medical School, China, University of Reading, UK, etc focusing AMR in livestock and poultry, migratory birds,  wild animals, environments and other One Health components.
  • Working on genomic surveillance for resistome/AMR and isolation and characterization MDR enteric pathogens e.g., , Enterococci, MRSA, Carbapenem, ESBL, and quinolone resistant bacteria from cattle and poultry in Bangladesh funded by ADB, MoST, MoE, UGC, FAO, BAS-USDA, UGC, BAURES, World Vegetables etc etc. 
  • Worked as the PI of (Livestock and Poultry Vaccine Research and Production Centre), Bangladesh Agricultural University on livestock and poultry vaccine development.
  • Worked as the Senior Regional Vaccine Consultant for Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh at Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh on livestock and poultry vaccine development.
  • In addition, during work as NSF (National Science and Technology Research)  fellow, at BAU, worked on isolation, identification and characterization of food borne pathogens from bakery food and its environments.
  • Worked as Postdoctoral research fellow of the Max Planck Society at the Max Planck Institute for terrestrial Microbiology at Marburg, Germany worked on molecular ecology of methanogens using 454 pyrosequencing based approach. In addition, focused on the development of a mcrA gene based database for robust and rapid taxonomic classification of mcrA pyroamplicons.
  • Worked as Head, Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh-2202 from 19th June, 2014 to 18th June, 2016.
  • During PhD at the University of Warwick, at UK I worked on the development, validation and application of conventional and real-time (quantitative) PCR assays for the detection of Methylocella spp. Its genomics and transcriptomics etc.
  • At the University of Guelph, Canada during MSc I worked on the genome of Rhodococcus equi a pathogen of foals, detection of potential genes involved in virulence and pathogenesis using a DNA microarray, in vivo and in vitro gene expression.
  • Worked as ASPM (PI and Co-PI) for HEQEP (Higher Education and Quality Enhancement Project) project on effective and inexpensive animal and poultry vaccine development. Supervised works on vaccine development for the control of animal and poultry disease. Antibiotic resistance, public health etc.
