26th May, 2013. Three teachers from the faculty of Biological Sciences at Dhaka University obtained Dean’s award for their excellent contribution to the field of scientific research. The recipients from three categories are – Professor Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Associate Professor Dr. Jesmin and Assistant Professor, Mustak Ibn Ayub from the Department of Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology. They were awarded Gold Medal for their outstanding input in life science research on May 25, 2013 in an award giving ceremony held at the Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. The Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique was present on the occasion as the chief guest while Dean of the faculty of Biological Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Imdadul Haque presided over the program. The Treasurer of the University Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin was also present there as the special guest.


The award winning scientist Professor Dr. Zeba Islam Seraj has been working on salinity/drought tolerant rice production while Dr. Jesmin’s award winning research was on Diabetes and that of Mustak Ibn Ayub was on Thalassemias.
