On the occasion of the 43rd birth day of BRRI (formerly EPRRI ), Dr Mohammad Abdul Mannan, the DG of disclosed the Institute granted an interview to a correspondent of Prothom Alo  In that interview the DG disclosed that BRRI released recently five varieties, the latest being BRRI 58 which was marketed in 2012. The details of the five recent varieties are as follows: BRRI dhan55 – medium duration-Boro & Aus season variety; it
has the capacity to tolerate salinity and is somewhat drought and cold
stress tolerant. BRRI dhan56 – a drought tolerant variety for T. Aman
season. BRRI dhan57 –  also a drought tolerant for T.Aman season BRRI hybrid dhan4  (high yielding T. Aman season hybrid variety) BRRI dhan58 – this is the first somaclonal rice variety derived from BRRI dhan29; it has the advantage of maturing one week earlier than BRRI dhan29 but giving the same yield as BRRI dhan29.
