Dhaka August 6, 2016. The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) is a worldwide  competition for secondary school students. All participant countries sent their top students, who were winners of their respective National Biology Olympiad (NBO). The International Biology Olympiad 2016 took place in Hanoi, Vietnam during July 17 through 24, 2016. Hanoi University of Education  hosted IBO2016 where 72 IBO member countries participated. After participating as an observer country in IBO2015, Bangladesh  competed in this mega event for the first time this year (2016) with a full team comprising  four students and two juries. The following students selected through a nationwide multi-step talent hunt – Ayman Wadud (Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School) Wasique Hasan (Mastermind English Medium School)Maisha Munawwara Prome (Oxford International School), Wasee Rahman Chowdhury (Scholastica) took part in this competition.

The Jury Members were: Professor Dr. Rakha Hari Sarker, Department of Botany, University of  Dhaka and Md. Samiul Alam Rajib, Senior Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy, BRAC University. Among the four students of Bangladesh, Wasique Hasan and Maisha Munawwara Prome obtained  the Merit Award.
