April 12, ’14. It’s with a good deal of pleasure that GNOBB announces the participation of its popular and dynamic member, Professor (Dr.) Haseena Khan, Chairperson in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, DU at the first ever National Conference on Natural Sciences and Technology (NCNST-2014) at the Chittagong Campus of Asian University for Women, the first liberal arts university for women in South Asia on April 24-25, 2014. It may be mentioned.that the Asian University for Women is the first liberal arts university for women in South Asia and is one of the two international universities in Bangladesh. The aim and the objective of the university is to provide opportunity for women to graduate, be skilled and innovative professionals, service-oriented leaders, and promoters of intercultural understanding and sustainable human and economic development in Asia and throughout the world.
The university for Women in South Asia is organizing for the first time a National Conference on Natural Sciences and Technology (NCNST-2014) at its Chittagong Campus on April 24-25, 2014. The conference topics are: Climate Change Impact; b) Renewable Resources; c) Environmental Health; d) Marine Ecology; and e) Genetically Modified Organisms. Guest Speakers for the conference are: 1. Dr. Talat Islam, Faculty Division of Environmental Health, Department of Preventive Medicine, University of Southern California Public Health, Asian University for Women. 2. Dr. Haseena Khan, Chairperson of the Department of a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dhaka University. 3. Dr. S.M. Imamul Huq, Professor, Department of Soil, Water & Environment, Founder Director, Bangladesh-Australia Centre for Environmental Research, University of Dhaka.
Earlier in the month the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) commemorated the International Women’s Day 2014 by organizing a three-day, “Gender and Development Fair” from April 8-10, 2014. As part of three day fair, they arranged a seminar series on April 09, 2014. Professor Haseena Khan, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka was a designated discussant there for a paper on “Gender Transformative” by the Vice Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, Professor AKM Nurun Nabi. The overall objective of the fair was to raise public awareness about the need to protect basic human rights, particularly women’s rights, in Bangladesh. The aim was also to raise awareness of these issues among youth in the Rangpur region and enhance the U.S. Government and GOB relationships at the divisional level in Rangpur through close collaboration in planning and executing the event.
