On August 31, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Society for the Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB), and the Society of Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists (GNOBB). This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of Biotechnology, Life sciences, Bioinformatics, and Omics sciences in Bangladesh.
The MoU, led by Mr. Munir Hasan, President (acting), SPSB at their office was a carefully orchestrated event that brought together key stakeholders from both organizations. He alongside Professor Zeba I Seraj, President, GNOBB signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. The prime objective of this agreement is to foster a robust partnership aimed at enhancing research, education, and outreach in the aforementioned fields. The signing ceremony was not just a formal agreement but a celebration of shared goals and vision.
One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the commitment to developing the Life Sciences at the Maqsudul Alam Science Lab (MASLab). Both SPSB and GNOBB have pledged to secure funding, donate equipment, and provide the necessary training to establish a bioinformatics station at MASLab as well as a well-equipped wet lab. A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on establishing a dedicated workstation for GNOBB at this location. Mr. Hasan, President (acting), SPSB, was actively considering the most suitable spot and assured us of its prompt formation.
The ceremony also laid the groundwork for a series of outreach programs targeted at young students, aiming to ignite their interest in Biotechnology and Life Sciences. These programs will include workshops, seminars, camps, and field trips designed to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists. The first episode of the ASI School of Life is a testament to this collaboration. May this effort symbolize the beginning of a fruitful collaboration that aims to contribute to the scientific community in Bangladesh.
